Problems with the availablility of high-quality components and recurring bottlenecks, especially in supplying wheels, are impeding even higher gain
B. Strautmann & Söhne GmbH & Co. KG with its headquarters in Bad Laer closed the 2007/ 2008 business year on 31.07.2008 with a turnover of € 68.9M. In the two product ranges of feeding technology and vehicle technology, an increase of more than 20% compared to the previous year could be realised.
Despite cautious forecasts in the other business sectors and a partly extreme increase in costs for consumables such as concentrated feed, mineral fertilizer and diesel, Strautmann is seeing an upward tendency consolidated on a long-term basis in farming and thus a positive prognosis for its own development.
The German market has benefited above average from the positive milk price development. Investments postponed in previous years were made thus making sure that the growth on the German core market could keep up with the export markets. In the export sector, the main emphasis still lies on the Western European markets, although the Eastern European markets having a significant and growing share in growth, too. The export quota is slightly above 45% of the total turnover.
The product range of stationary mixers for charging solid matters into the fermenters of the biogas plants has stabilised after the collapse caused by increased commodity prices and has been developing positively again since the beginning of the year. On a long-term basis, a firm market will develop here. Small- and medium-size plants are of particular interest, the vertical mixer having established itself as charging technique in this field.
The forage trailer market has stabilised at previous year's level, a clear trend to larger machinery offering considerably longer operating times is being noticed. Even in less structured regions, mainly rotor forage trailers are sold. The trailers between 75 KW and 90 KW are available here - the new Super-Vitesse plus series is convincing in this segment.
In feeding technology, a strong trend towards automotive fodder mixing vehicles is becoming apparent. With its automotive models from 11 m3 to 20 m3, Strautmann offers a fully developed solution for the growth-oriented farm putting its main focus on the machinery's efficiency and reliability. The shares in this market segment could be considerably increased by significantly increasing the number of units. For the current year, the domestic market share is expected to stabilise, especially in the forage harvest range increases are hardly to be expected. Strautmann's potential for growth is on the export markets.
